How embarrassing (No on Prop 8!) Nov. 11th, 2008 @ 08:57 pm
The results of the Prop 8 vote are an embarrassment and a tragedy. I will never understand how anyone can think that someone else's marriage hurts their own.

No on Prop 8, ppl, I mean come ON:

Tips for cyclists from a car driver Jun. 14th, 2008 @ 07:30 pm
Now, as a cyclist, you have to remember that from time to time you're going to get stuff thrown at you from moving vehicles. You won't always know why!
...

When a car driver doesn't have a burger or a milkshake to toss out the window at a cyclist? the next best thing is definitely a good one liner!

Minneapolis just sunk further into the stone ages on April 8th.

I just wrote to Pawlenty to express my unspeakable disappointment in his latest feebleminded move.

» Visiter!
The Dodos' new album, Visiter, is out and it does not disappoint!

I think pitchfork's rating of 8.5 is actually quite harsh, but we all know what those pitchfork ratings are good for, don't we? I tried plunging my toilet with one the other day. Totally didn't work. I tried taking advice off one once too. That was an expensive mistake.

I recommend checking out The Dodos' Myspace page for a tour date near you. They really know how to throw together a captivating live show and look like it requires no effert (sic) at all.

Someone has put this sweaty music video together for one of my favorite tracks on the album:

And for some reason, this exists too:

» Why "greening" cars won't fix our predicament
I believe that green compact communities, smaller well-built homes, walkable streets and smart infrastructure can actually offer a far better quality of life than living in McMansion hintersprawl in purely material terms: more comfort, more security, more true prosperity. But even more to the point, I believe they offer all sorts of non-materialistic but extremely real benefits that suburbs cannot. Opponents of smart growth talk about sacrificing our way of life -- but it's not a sacrifice if what you get in exchange is superior.

» Ciclovia Bogotá
Every Sunday from early morning until 2pm, Bogota closes 70 miles of its streets to traffic. A weekly party has resulted, in which people ride bikes, rollerblade, run, boogie, do aerobics, tour the city.... it's a huge space suddenly available for any activity but driving. and people use the hell out of it.
Other cities which have already taken their cue from Bogotá and have closed some roads for this purpose are Guadalajara, Santiago, Ottawa, and Paris. Among the other cities considering implementing something similar are NYC, Portland, Baltimore, Chicago, and Cleveland. Once again San Francisco is curiously missing from the list. Amazing, considering how progressive we generally consider ourselves to be.
